Ayushi Alva is a documentary filmmaker and editor based in India, whose work explores personal narratives, political realities, and historical/archival material. Her filmmaking practice is rooted in deep research and extensive interviews, often weaving together experimental visual forms and collaborative artistic processes. She has experience in post-production, having taught editing at the Prague Film School while also assisting in training.

Ayushi has written, directed, and edited most of her own films, collaborating with writers, cinematographers, voice artists, animators, music composers, and choreographers across different projects. Her short experimental documentary A Memoir in Dance was nominated at the 28th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in the Fascinations: Exprmntl.cz category, and it went on to win Best Documentary Film at Prague Film School.

Ayushi’s passion for social impact also led her to work with KhiladiPro, an AI startup company, where she co-directed and edited short documentaries to spotlight young talents and help them access better opportunities. She has taught filmmaking and academic subjects to children in Behrampada, Mumbai, for two years and volunteered with tsunami relief children in Thailand and at the International School of Bangkok as a teacher’s assistant.

In addition to filmmaking, Ayushi is an experienced curator and programmer. She served as the Programming Head at Kriti Film Club, where she has curated large-scale festivals such as EcoReels (Delhi and Bangalore editions) and the Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival. Kriti Film Club focuses on screening films within communities in collaboration with grassroots organisations—ensuring that socially relevant cinema reaches the people it represents. She was also part of the programming team at the Dharamshala International Film Festival as a film reviewer.

Ayushi’s interdisciplinary experience across filmmaking, education, and community engagement reflects her belief in the power of cinema to educate, connect, and transform. She hopes to continue working collaboratively and eventually mentor young artists in socially conscious storytelling.

I began my journey in documentary filmmaking driven by a desire to tell stories rooted in lived experiences and everyday resilience. Over the years, I've directed and edited films that explore identity, memory, and social change. My work has taken me into communities, classrooms, and festivals.
ABOUT ME
I’m a documentary filmmaker and video editor with a strong grounding in post-production. I work primarily with DaVinci Resolve and have been both a student and a teacher of editing. My journey has been shaped by stories rooted in community, care, and social impact.
I began my film programming journey with a passion for socially driven cinema and community storytelling. Over the years, I’ve curated multiple festivals, working closely with grassroots groups to bring powerful films to the people they represent. It’s been about more than just screening films—it’s about building conversations and connections through them.
